Junko Tabei
Junko Tabei was a Japanese mountaineer.
She was the first woman to reach Mount Everest, and the first woman to climb all seven peaks by climbing the highest peak on every continent.
She did this while facing gender discrimination in a country where women were often expected to stay at home in that era.
She used to say “Do not give up” according to Google.
Tabei borns on 22 September in Miharu, Fukushima, in 1939, Tabei began climbing at the age of 10, even though she was considered a frail child. In 1969, she founded a women's climbing club after being treated poorly by male mountaineers, some of whom refused to climb with her.
Her life’s journey remarkable tales of perseverance in the face of great challenges.
She climbed 69 major mountains in more than 60 countries and continued to climb after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2012.
After all that persevering journey she died four years later, on Oct. 20, 2016, at the age of 77.
Tabei is honored by a Google Doodle on September 22, 2019, on what would have been her 80 birthday.
